How can I make a belt buckle using Pewter?

I am a long time Copenhagen fanatic, and was hoping to make a belt buckle out of the lid to my favorite can. My original idea was to cut a piece of metal about the size of the lid, weld a hook and loop for the belt to that, then superglue the lid to the plate. It was then I was told that I could simply make the hook and loop, set it in the upside down lid, and pour melted pewter into it, using the lid as a mold; the result being a solid piece of pewter behind the lid that will withstand the strain of the belt, hold the lid in place, and keep the components of the belt buckle steadfast. Can I use this process to make my idea a reality, and if so, where can I find the pewter components?

I would think that epoxying the lid to an “old” buckle would be better than melting something and pouring it into the lid. Any metal melted would burn the finish off the lid and not achieve your goal. Try to find a buckle that fits inside the lid and epoxy it together. If you could find the right size buckle you could even crimp the back side of the lid to the buckle and not need the glue.
